Activities Launching Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Australia and New Zealand 01.05.2025 The opening of the Canberra office of FES coincided with the foundation’s 100th anniversary in 2025. Image: Creator: FES-ANZ, Kobi-Lee Hiebl An exhibition looking back at FES’ history was on display at outreach events in Canberra and Sydney marking the launch of the program. It allowed us to present plans for our work in the context of the organization’s broader objectives and the lived values of social democracy. Nurturing a large network of partners and friends is essential for FES’ international work Shaping the work of FES in New Zealand and Australia in the years to come will be done in constant exchange and dialogue with our partners on the ground. The assets the foundation can bring to the table will be put to use for projects of common interest, and local initiatives can be linked up with FES existing regional and global engagement activities. Presenting the key elements of FES’ international work to a broader audience during the launch occasions in Sydney and Canberra was complemented by early trips to Melbourne, Wellington and Auckland, and outreach will continue across Australia and New Zealand in the months ahead. In addition, participants from both countries contributed to various workshops, training courses and conferences organized by FES colleagues in Berlin as well as in the Indo-Pacific – a region that is becoming more and more important for the future shape of the international political and economic order.
